|A reader has asked for an opinion on Shape Platinum and 4S Slimming Pills as advertised at www.4s-slimming.com. Regine van Aswegen is listed as the Sales Manager.|
4S Slimming Pills claims to be: “100% Natural Fat Burning Ingredients” and effective as a slimming pill. The product claims: “4S is an all natural product with the best quality herbs used for maximum effect”.
It contains the following ingredients and abbreviated claims:
- Garcina Cambogia (Brindell Berry)
- Cassia Seed Extract: “Removes the intensive heat from the liver while improving vision and moisturizing the intestines and easing the bowels.”
- Lotus Leaf Extract: “Sensational newly found weight loss qualities of Lotus are widely used in the modern weight loss industry”.
- Oriental Water Plantain: “This herb is sweet and tasteless in flavour, cold in nature. It acts on the kidney and urinary bladder channels. Being sweet and tasteless for inducing diuresis and excreting dampness, and cold for clearing heat. It is also known to protect the bladder and urinary tract. This traditional Chinese herb is used for weight loss and boosting fat loss”.
- Other Ingredients: Aloe, Dietary Fibre, Evening primrose.
Are these claims true, or is this another weight-loss scam.
Firstly, there is no proof at all that this mix of ingredients results in effective weight-loss or fat burning.
We can then examine the claims for the individual ingredients using the highly credible Natural Medicines Comprehensive Database (NMCD) “Unbiased, Scientific Clinical Information on Complementary, Alternative, and Integrative Therapies”, which states for these ingredients:
Garcina Cambogia: NMCD concludes for the evidence for the effectiveness of this ingredient for obesity: “Effectiveness: Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate”. In other words, in spite of many studies testing this ingredient as a fat burner, and weight-loss, that the overall consensus is that it just does not work. It also depends on the dose of Garcinia, the concentration of hydroxycitric acid contained in the Garcinia extract, and other factors. What is the dose used in this product? We do not know.
Amylum: Amylum is another name for Starch! Wikipedia states: “Starch or amylum is a carbohydrate consisting of a large number of glucose units joined by glycosidic bonds. Thispolysaccharide is produced by most green plants as an energy store. It is the most common carbohydrate in human diets and is contained in large amounts in staple foods such as potatoes, wheat, maize (corn), rice, and cassava”. In other words, no effect on weight-loss. NMCD does not even mention this ingredient for it has no benefit except as a starch.
Cassia Seed: NMCD reminds us that “Orally, senna used as a laxative for constipation, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), anorectal surgery, hemorrhoids, evacuating the GI tract to facilitate diagnostic tests, anal fissures, weight loss, and in “cleansing” teas”. In other words, just a laxative, no weight-loss effects!
Lotus Leaf Extract: NMCD states that: “Orally, lotus flowers are used as an astringent for bleeding. Lotus seeds are used orally for digestive disorders and diarrhea”. In other words, not effective for weight loss.
Oriental Water Plantain: Orally, water plantain is used for bladder and urinary tract diseases. “The drug is used as diuretic, anti-inflammatory agent; for the treatment of diarrhea with diminished discharge of urine, edema with oliguria, phlegm-retention, diarrhea, leukorrhagia and hyperlipemia”.
Not effective for weight loss.
There is no evidence that Aloe, dietary fibre, and evening primrose have fat burning or weight-loss effects.
In other words, 4S slimming pills is simply a mix of ingredients put together to fool you into believing that the claims are true, but in fact, with no proven weight-loss or fat burning.
The same applies to Shape Platinum, which claims to contain:
- Ginko Biloba 100 mg
- Guggul Sterone 100 mg
- Daytohimbin 75 mg
- Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) 50 mg
- Chromium Picolinatex 75 mg
