Miracle Magnesium – ‘Dit laat net jou maag werk’

This article on Body Detox / Marcelle du Plessis / Miracle Magnesium, and published in Beeld on 31 October 2013, is titled “It only makes your stomach work”.

Interestingly, according to the article, Marcelle du Plessis says that it does not matter whether she has proof for her products or whether the ASA rules against her claims, that she will continue to advertise her products and the claims! Does this suggest that Body Detox has “psychopathic” tendencies?

The famous book by Professor Joel Bakan, The Corporation, and a subsequent documentary resulting from the book, “takes an in-depth psychological examination of the organization model through various case studies. What the study illustrates is that in the its behaviour, this type of ‘person’ [organisation] typically acts like a dangerously destructive psychopath without conscience.

The book and documentary asks whether corporations can act like a psychopath, and compare tendencies to the criteria used to diagnose human psychopaths.

Here are the diagnostic criteria for Antisocial PD (DSM-IV-TR 301.22):

“A. A pervasive pattern of disregard for and violation of the rights of others occurring since age 15 years, as indicated by three (or more) of the following:

  1. failure to conform to social norms with respect to lawful behaviors such as indicated by repeatedly performing acts that are grounds for arrest
  2. deceitfulness, as indicated by repeated lying, use of aliases, or conning others for personal profit or pleasure
  3. impulsivity or failure to plan ahead
  4. irritability and aggressiveness, as indicated by repeated physical fights or assaults
  5. reckless disregard for the safety of self or others
  6. consistent irresponsibility, as indicated by repeated failure to sustain consistent work behavior or honor financial obligations
  7. lack of remorse, as indicated by being indifferent to or rationalizing having hurt, mistreated, or stolen from another B. The individual is at least age 18 years.”

Of course, this is not the only definition (and some non-relevant aspects to this issue has not been included), but it is by far the most accepted, and most widely researched.

We are not saying that Body Detox are psychopathic!

We are pointing out that “failure to conform to social norms with respect to lawful behaviors such as indicated by repeatedly performing acts that are grounds for arrest”,  “deceitfulness, as indicated by repeated lying, use of aliases, or conning others for personal profit or pleasure”, “reckless disregard for the safety of self or others” and “lack of remorse, as indicated by being indifferent to or rationalizing having hurt, mistreated, or stolen from another” appear to be shared by Body Detox and the diagnostic criteria for Antisocial PD (DSM-IV-TR 301.22)

      @Dina
An overdose usually first results in diarrhoea, so if you did not experience that, then unlikely.
