The British General Medical Council has suspended the registration of Dr. Finbar Magee. [Houston L. Alternative medicine row doctor is suspended by GMC. Belfast Telegraph, Nov 26, 2015]

MMS (Miracle Mineral Solution), an industrial-strength bleach derivative that has been marketed for many health problems, has been subjected to enforcement actions in several countries because it is ineffective and dangerous.

Last May, an RTE Prime Time television documentary focused on Magee’s prescription of MMS for the treatment of an autistic child. His interim suspension follows a panel ruling last December which restricted his practice to closely supervised practice at his clinic. Magee has operated Synergy Healthcare in Belfast, Ireland, for many years, which offers a wide range of offbeat treatments. The GMC’s concerns about him have not yet been disclosed but are likely to be related to his advocacy of MMS. Interim suspension is usually followed … Read the rest

Major MMS marketer curbed in Illinois

The Illinois Attorney General has obtained an agreement under which Kerri Rivera is barred from promoting Miracle Mineral Supplement (MMS) as an autism cure in Illinois. MMS contains a 28% solution of sodium chlorite, which, when mixed with an acid such as citrus juice, produces chlorine dioxide (ClO2), a potent bleach used for stripping textiles and industrial water treatment. High oral doses, such as those recommended in MMS labeling, can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and severe dehydration.

Health Canada seizes Miracle Mineral Solution

Health Canada has seized a supply of Miracle Mineral Solution (MMS), which was sold as a treatment for serious diseases such as cancer through the website www.buymms.biz. MMS contains sodium chlorite, a chemical used mainly as a textile bleaching agent and disinfectant, which cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and symptoms of severe dehydration, if ingested. An alternate format of MMS, labeled as CDS, also sold through this Web site, would pose similar risks. The seizure included bottles of MMS, packaging, labeling, and raw materials used to produce MMS. The agency said that it took the action because the company had failed to comply with an order to cease sales. In 2009,the FDA ordered one MMS distributor to stop making illegal health claims for MMS, and in 2010, both agencies issued public warnings. Presumably as a result, manufacturers have changed the product label to specify that Read the rest

In a previous ASA ruling against this company, (21 May 2012), the ASA ruled, inter alia, that the respondent’s advertising for its “Bio-Sil MMS” contained unsubstantiated claims in contravention of Clause 4.1 of Section II of the Code. It also found that the advertisement was likely to mislead people in a manner that was in contravention of Clause 4.2.1 of Section II of the Code. The respondent was instructed to withdraw the advertising in its current format within the deadlines stipulated in Clause 15.3 of the Procedural Guide, and is not used again in future. An Ad Alert was issued to the ASA members with reference to the advertisement, asking members not to accept any advertising for the respondent’s.

Miracle Mineral Solution – scam continues

Ms LL Steele lodged a complaint against  Bio Sil MMS website, specifically the page on http://www.biosil.co.za/products/bio-sil-mms-miracle-mineral-solution, which promotes the Miracle Mineral Solution product. The complainant submitted that the advertisement is highly misleading and causes a potential danger to members of the public who might be seeking a cure for various health problems. People are consuming this product (which is effectively a bleach or disinfectant), and in instances giving it to their children without realising the severe health consequences this could have (which includes poisoning, kidney failure and harming red blood cells).

Initially, the  Bio Sil MMS submitted that she had done extensive research, and has not found any evidence of chlorine dioxide harming anybody. A request was made for the new complainant to provide proof of such harm. (Here is proof from the FDA) Following correspondence with the ASA,  Bio Sil MMS refused further communication.… Read the rest
